ABOUT COLLEGE

The college has the history of providing education to the socially backward, the poor and the rural. Most of the graduates are being absorbed in different professions both in and out of Yanam. And several students after pursuing higher studies have occupied good positions both in India and abroad.

The college offers B.A., B. Sc., B.Com. M.A. (Economics) and M.Com. Courses. Examinations are conducted in semester pattern in accordance with the guidelines of Pondicherry University. The college is one of the centers for Distance Mode of Education both for contact classes and examinations of Pondicherry University.

In respect of selection of teaching faculty, the posts are notified by the UPSC and recruitment is made by it on all India basis, in accordance with the UGC guidelines and the candidates selected are recommended to the Government of Puducherry for placement.

Infrastructural Facilities:

The library is equipped with 25,026 books and 35 subscribed journals / periodicals on varied subjects are available. The science departments are well equipped with required scientific and audio visual equipments. The administrative office and all departments are provided with computers and internet connectivity. The Central Computer Laboratory serves as a UGC-Resource Center and a Laboratory for B.Sc. Computer Science students. The students of other departments with their staff of the college can have access to the lab., for academic purposes.

The College Sports Complex:

 

                 The college sports complex is named after Late GMC Balayogi, former Speaker of Lok sabha as The GMC Balayogi Sports Complex. It is with an area of 6.5 acres.  The South Zone basketball tournament was organized during 2004-`05 in this sports complex.

        The Indoor stadium which is situated in this sports complex is named after Dr. Y S R Rajasekhara Reddy, Former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, as Dr.YSR International Indoor Stadium.

       It has a play area of 1992 Sq. Mts. having a seating capacity of 2100 persons and area is flexible which can accommodate one Basket ball court, two Badminton courts, three Table Tennis Boards and one Volley Ball court. Provision is also made for Multi gym., Billiards and weightlifting. Besides there other basic infrastructural facilities like VIP, Press/TV gallery, Change room coach room etc. In addition to all these, it is provided with Automatic electrical control room with fire fighting system, illumination of 14 lux intensity and Air conditioning capacity of 240 tones have been installed to auditorium.

It provides a venue for conducting national and International games.

Conferences / Seminars / Work-shops:

On 22nd & 23rd January 2010, the department of Economics organized a National Level Conference on CHALLENGES IN HUMAN DEVELOPMENT, sponsored by UGC, and co sponsored by NABARD & Reserve Bank of India

On 15th & 16th November 2010, The IQAC of the College organized a Two-day seminar on THE INNOVATIVE IDEAS IN TEACHING-LEARNING EVALUATION PROCESS.

Co-curricular & Extra-curricular Activities:

The South Zone basketball tournament was organized in the college sports complex (2004-`05). The college staffs are very cooperative in conducting competitions in co-curricular and extracurricular activities every year. The prize winners receive their prizes during college day celebrations.

Training and Placement Cell

       It is an independent Training & Placement Cell, committed to provide all possible assistance to its top ranked students and also to meet the needs of organizations. It is headed by an Associate Professor designated as Training & Placement Officer in charge and assisted by Student Placement Coordinators. It ensures the students to secure esteemed positions.
The cell coordinates various activities and provides career guidance, necessary skills to the students along with the academics. Student's queries of all kinds are clarified by the most qualified faculty and staff. Students will be made technically sound, outstanding performers and excellent leaders.        Additionally, the Cell maintains a good library of resource books for self improvement and job search. The computerization of the entire activities of the placement Cell is in progress. The Training & Placement Cell is located at the College Administrative building, room no.2.
The placement cell in this college started in July 2004 in collaboration with University of Pondicherry placement cell. Each student has to pay Rs 200 for membership. Once a student is enrolled, he / she can attend interview / recruitment for three years. Once a student gets selected, he/ she has to pay to the placement cell of Puducherry Rs. 5000/ or 2% of his/her salary whichever is minimum.

The Schedule of the College:

The annual working days are 225; teaching days are185 and the library is kept open 300 working days.
